Coffee Pot Planter

My grandmother is known for her overly huge collection of junk. She will keep things knowing there's no way in heck she will ever use it again. The coffee pot, from the 80's I assume, is no exception. Mamaw had intentions of keeping it, knowing the maker that it went with was not even in existence. So with my crafting abilities, and her love of coffee and plants, I threw together a little ensemble to satisfy both her loves!

what you need:

Spray paint, tape of some sort, and an old coffee pot

*a pencil with an eraser + second color of spray paint if you want polka dots*

Begin by wrapping the brown part of the coffee pot with the tape (Scotch tape)

Shake up your spray paint and add a thing layer of paint, wait for it to dry, then repeat process until pot is evenly covered in paint.

Do not try to apply all the layers needed at once. The paint will drip and leave you in a huge mess. 

Once this is dry, you can apply a clear coat of spray paint for protection and extra shine if you wish. 

Or, you can add polka dots. I grabbed a Styrofoam plate, sprayed some spray paint, dipped my pencil eraser into the paint, and polka-dotted my pot!

Once your dots are done, make sure they are totally dry! After you are sure they are, add a clear coat of spray paint for extra protection and shine!

Then, remove your tape!

My grandmother LOVED the finished product. She then had me to do the same makeover to a small coffee mug to complete her new decoration.

She is going to use the coffee pot to display fresh flowers, and the mug to plant a small flower!

DIY Petal Boxes

Why buy when you can DIY? That is my motto for everything which is why I created a template plus a tutorial for making your own petal-gift boxes! I will include the photo of the template you will need, as well as the print I used so yours can be identical to mine!

To begin making your own petal box, print this template. Do not crop it... save it and print full paged.

I used a Lilly Pulitzer print for my box... here is the exact page I printed. Save it, and print full paged.

What You Need:

Once you have printed the box template, and the print you want... cut out the box template.

Next, trace the template onto the backside of your print.

Now, add the dark lines (which you will cut) and the dotted lines(where you will fold).

Cut along the edge of the template, as well as the four dark lines illustrated.

Next you will fold on the dotted lines.

After you have folded and cut, for a more polished look, erase the dotted-lines and any other stray marks that are left over from cutting.

Now using your glue stick, glue the little flaps to the inside of the box walls.

Repeat that process three more times until your box is constructed.

Now fill your box with goodies, fold flaps closed, and garnish with a bow!

C.M.O. = Compulsive-Monogramming-Obsession. It is a legit issue southern belles all over the South are struggling to overcome. Or embrace. I diagnosed myself with C.M.O this weekend when a mad sense of craftiness took me over. Below you will gawk over all my beautiful creations. While I was crafting, I got a sense of generosity as well, and made gift boxes full of monogrammed labels and monogrammed circles for my three lady friends!

DIY: Pretty Pins

Thump tacks are boring and dull. Point blank. You're pinning up a priceless photo or inspirational quote with a lifeless thump tack. So Saturday night I busted out my glue gun, buttons and pearls... and set to work. 

Pinned them into a paint swatch left over from a calendar I made (see that at the end of post) so you could see the colors.

What You'll Need:

Thumb Tacks came from the Dollar Store... $1 for a pack of 300. Some buttons gave been randomly found and others bought from Hobby Lobby.

My Procedure:

Add tiny drop of glue to "base" button, then quickly put "top" button on top and press together.

Next, flip over button so the "bottom" is facing upward...

Add glue to this side then immediately press thumb tack on.

Then, after I'd make them, I'd stick them through a paint swatch so they could completely dry (this would be essential if you were using white glue instead of hot glue)

Then make TONS more! 

I misplaced my cork board so unfortunately you can't see the little babies in action.

My only complaints is that I couldn't find a shorter, but longer frame. My intention was to have a swatch for each day, but I had to make Saturday and Sunday together. I still LOVE it!

DIY: Potholder Holders/ Cases

I really am not overly pleased with the outcome of this DIY- it could be for the lack of a hot glue gun, and my poor sewing skills, but for a more skilled sewer, this DIY will run a lot smoother, and look a lot nicer. 


My first speed bump was I could not find the pot holders I was looking for. I had bright colors with polka dots in mind, but Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Walgreens, CVS, Marshals, and K-Mart (where I purchased the ones I used) had boring colors in mind. So I ended up setting for a  greenish color. 


It started out as a straighter holder/case...then became a sunglasses holder/case...finally resulting in an "electronic holder," as I have decided me call it. the sunglasses I tried to place in this handy holder were either too large, or I wasn't placing them in correctly. Anyways, I have decided these little clutch-like holders will be used to keep your electronics safe while in your purse! It isn't bulky, like some protective electronic cases. And if you are a good sewer, yours will look fabulous.


All you really have to do is fold horizontally, pin sides together to hold shape, sew on an accessories(buttons, ribbon, lace), then sew up the sides. 

To make the fastener: cut a hair bow/hair tie in two, sew each end together very close together at the top...then sew a button on, where the tie can hook around it, holding the sides together, keeping your electronic from tumbling out! 
I sewed a ribbon on over the ends of the hair bow, camouflaging the 'fastener' but all the extras are optional, and changeable. 

I know the quality of these aren't the greatest, but please understand this was my first time making anything like this. It always takes a few tries to perfect something.
