My Thoughts on '50 Shades'

Hmm... what is to say about an incredibly kinky porn-like novel? Well it was kinky.

Iffy.

My reasoning for giving the novel "50 Shades of Grey" by E.L James a rating of "5" on a scale of 1-10 is because I can honestly say it was a learning experience. Prior to reading this book I had no idea what "BDSM" was. Now, I can say I have a very informative definition of the term. As of now, it is undecided if I will read the other two novels in the trilogy.

I have to say that as far as the non-physical story line goes, I admit I liked it. The twisted romance between Ana Stille and Christian Grey was quite amusing. Not knowing where their relationship would go next was good in my book because I hate reading something predictable. But, the word 'predictable' is what I would use to describe the sex scenes. To me, three-ish things discussed in the "contract" were actually used between Christian & Ana. All the sex scenes were similar in physical doings- different in location. I would've found a wider variety of acts to be ore pleasurable to read.

Of course, I must add, I was not reading 50 Shades to get any sort of ideas for my own relationship. I would call my reasoning for reading 50 Shades "business-like." A handful of blogs I have came across have mentioned reading it. Along with the buzz from TV, Internet, and radio, I thought I needed to read in order to have a clue what was being discussed. I am aware that this probably wasn't the best book for me to be reading considering I am a mere 15 years old. But like I said, to me it was business-like & semi-educational, however you wish to look at it. I had an opportunity to read this novel, so I took it. I like to be able to voice an educated opinion about current events. To me, it wasn't as inappropriate as everyone portrayed it to be. But this is just my opinion.

Speaking of opinions- I'd really like to hear yours. I please ask anyone who has read 50 Shades, 1, 2, or 3, to please comment with your thoughts/opinions on this(these) books. If you would not like your comments about this topic public, please, please email me about it! I would truly love to know what others think!! Again, my email is dashofsouthern@yahoo.com

  1. Totally, 100%, wholeheartedly agree with you on the predictability of the sex. I too read it because of the hype and not because I wanted to get ideas for myself... but I found myself skimming the sexy parts once I got into book 2. The writing isn't deep, but it's perfect for a quick summer read, that's for sure!
