Cans vs. Cant's

Ever imagined what life would be like as a conjoined twin? Being a twin, you think I would've. However, the thought never crossed my mind until the premiere of "Abby & Brittany" on TLC.

Abby and Brittany are identical twins joined from the neck-ish down. They do have two hearts and two sets of lungs, but one reproductive system. One operates the left side, the other the right. When the previews first aired, all I could think about was all the things they can't do. But after actually watching the show for the first time last night, I noticed their outlook on life is the complete opposite. These ladies are so optimistic and determined to live the most regular life possible.

I'll be honest, I can not even stand by twin sitting behind me in English class. The thought of being with her every second for the past fifteen years is hard to grasp. But Abby and Brittany have a bond no one else in the entire world could understand. They recently graduated college, majoring in education. Both getting diplomas and licenses to teach. These young women are so inspiring. They make me want to better my relationship with my sister. All I can think to myself is "If they can be with each other every waking moment, why can't I tolerate my twin for a mere five minutes?" Crazy, isn't it.

The point of this little rambling wasn't necessarily to persuade you to better your relationship with your siblings, but to bring awareness to the fact that most of us human beings focus on the negatives- "I can't do this, I can't do that..." Well if those two remarkable girls can accomplish all they have, despite their physical abnormalities, us perfectly "normal" (if there is such a thing) humans should be able to turn our cant's into cans, and dreams into plans. My personal goal for awhile is going to be to try to obtain a positive outlook and a new found optimistic viewing on the activities taking place in my atmosphere, instead of being the first to jump aboard the "negative Nelly" bandwagon. Whose with me? Living life to my full capabilities, and never saying never...

Pretty deep for a Wednesday!

Potato Cheese Soup

Today I am sharing with you a new recipe that I tried for the first time last night! It was a perfect dish to warm my insides on a rainy Carolina day! This recipe is very simple, the hardest part is peeling potatoes (not a fan). The cheese truly makes the soup, so don't skimp on that aspect! Enjoy & comment if you have any further questions.

Potato Cheese Soup
yield: 6-8 servings

3 c. potatoes, chopped finely
1 rib celery, chopped finely
1 medium carrot, chopped
Water to cover
2 T. margarine
2 bouillon cubes
1 T. dried parsley
salt and pepper
2 c. half and half
2 T. flour
Cheese for topping

Cook potatoes, celery, and carrot in water for 15 minutes. Add margarine, bouillon, parsley, salt, pepper, half and half, and flour. Cook until slightly thick. Add cheese. Serve.

Ingredients

Add veggies, after 15 minutes, add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil & let boil for 20-30 minutes.

Garnish with cheese & serve!

Dream Fresh BB Review

For several years now my grandmother has subscribed to Seventeen magazine for my sister & I to enjoy. I rarely notice the cosmetic samples but for whatever reason, this New Dream Fresh BB cream by Maybelline caught me eye in the latest issue. I took it out of the magazine and put it on my bathroom counter. Tuesday morning I used it for the first time. WOW! I love the softness it adds to my skin. It made my skin look like a baby's, no joke. I used it as a "base" then applied a little blush (Mary Kay) then powder (Mary Kay) over the cream and blush. Side note: for whatever reason, I like the look of powder over blush... I think blush over powder is a more dramatic look than I would like.. anyways, cream.. love it!

This picture does not do a justice, but it does show the clearness of my face after the cream had been applied for around 12 hours!

The shade I received was Light/Medium Sheer Tint... and it was perfect. It gave just enough coverage to even my skin tone, without looking like I had "caked" foundation on. This cream is available in 5 skin tones.

When I applied the BB cream I just squirted pea size amounts into my palm, then blended it onto my face one "section" at a time- left cheek, right cheek, nose, chin, forehead/ temples, using my fingers.

BB creams combine skincare + makeup in 1 simple step 8-in-1 Skin Perfector because it blurs imperfections, brightens & evens skin tone, smoothes, hydrates, & enhances, as well as protecting your skin with SPF 30. BB cream has 0% oils and heavy ingredients.

Have you ever tried this product? Or a similar one from a different manufacture? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
